Pool math - setting FC target

I might be missing something obvious. How can I make my FC Target stick? Every time I enter a test result, the target FC says 8. With an SWG and a CYA of 70, I'm targeting 5, but I have to enter that manually every time. And since I'm forgetful and compulsive, I have to Google the chlorine/CYA chart every time. What am I missing?

Be sure you pool is setup as a SWG pool. Look at your setup.

If you want to target a different FC, you have to change it. Each time you use PoolMath, it will revert to the mid range of the parameter you are working on.

It sounds like you’ve got a firm grasp on the FC/CYA ratio but the logic behind it defaulting is to help protect those who don’t have a grasp. On the webpage I’ve seen from time to time users attempt to maintain a FC level to low for their CYA after they altered something and forgot to change it back. This helps guard against that.

That said, I know there’s a group that likes to maintain a FC level higher than target to ensure they don’t go below the minimum. We’ve tossed around a few ways to both safeguard users AND allow for changes to be made, but haven’t firmly decided what’s the best path just yet.

That makes good sense. This is the first year I've used pool math. It's been cool and cloudy here so far, so maintenance has been easy. I'm leaving town for two weeks, though, and I expect it will get warm and sunny as soon as I leave, so I'm keeping my FC a little high in anticipation. I can adjust my SWG run time remotely, so I'll just watch the weather and make some semi-educated guesses. Worst case, my house-sitter can dump a jug if things get ugly. Thanks for the insight. TFP has taught me to trust the numbers!

This is so smart! I was fighting the app all morning trying to figure out why it wanted my chlorine so low, and I now see it is because my CYA is so low! This is a wonderful feature, but I'd like to suggest that you maybe call it out in the app somewhere so people don't just think they're fighting a bug.

Maybe in the setup a toggle that allows user to set their own target then another toggle like the slam switch to toggle on their own target while defaulting as it currently does until the toggle is on. That would be nice as I am on #teamrunhot too lol
