Hi All

I check new posts daily and I'm an avid member of this community

I'm doing an AA treatment and need to reduce my pH from 7.8 to 7.2
Pool math says I need to add 1571ml of muriatic acid
I'm OK with that, I then factored in reducing my TA from 120 to 80 at the same time and the results came back with 2241ml of muriatic acid
I know that both will reduce with MA but will the full amount reduce my pH to much

Thanks

Yes, adding it all will drop your pH too much. The lowest you should go with any acid addition is a pH of 7.0. Target that amount. Over time, your pH will rise back up to the 7.8 range, then you can add more acid.

However, I have to ask why you're wanting to lower your TA to 80? Is your pH rising faster than you'd like? That's certainly plausible and at TFP we recommend lower TA values for more stable pH, as low as 50-60 ppm. But... don't just lower your TA to some arbitrary number. Let it "live" at a TA that allows your pH to be fairly stable, low pH rise rate.
