For me a pool without lights would be like putting up a Christmas tree and not putting on lights. Surely you can enjoy the tree without lights, just as with the pool. But why?
And our colored LED lights were the biggest positive surprise of the entire build from an enjoyment perspective. We have ColorLogic lights by Hayward and they have been troublefree since installation in 2013. You'll hear negatives about LED's but I also wanted you to hear a good review. Ours lights get about 6 months of use per year and about a couple nights per week I'd say.
