On a couple of occasions this past winter, my pool heater decided to turn itself on (we normally only use it when we plan to use the pool). We were away from home both times this happened, so it ran for several days before I discovered it. After the 2nd time (and an expensive gas bill), I disconnected power at the junction box. Not sure if the control board is faulty or someone (pool service, gardener, ?) hit the on button. So, with this context, I have a question: Is it acceptable to use the IntelliPro3 VSF 5 Amp relay to switch power on/off to the heater (Max-E-Therm 400)? I realize this is probably unconventional, but would allow me to not only prevent the heater from running unintentionally, but would also give me remote on/off control.
