Pool Flow and Pump Issues

I have a Barrier Reef 40 pool (19,200 gal). The pool installer used 2 deep returns and a skimmer in the middle of the deep end. There are 3 inflows to the pool, 2 on one side - one the all the way to the shallow end and one in the middle ..... and the 3rd inflow closest to the deep end on the opposite side.
The plumbing was done in a way that I assumed was to save money on pipe and manifold — there is just one line that splits underground and supplies all inflows. I would have preferred a manifold with homerun lines to each inflow so they could be adjusted separately.
The pump is a Hayward Super Pump 1 1/2 HP.

I have 2 problems :
The shallow end of the pool has very poor flow and constantly has dirt on the bottom and Crud on the surface. There is a huge difference in the flow coming out fo the inflow for the the shallow end inflow as compared to the deep end inflow. Thus my wish that I had homeruns and a manifold to adjust the flow.

The second problem (and the main reason that I’m posting) is that my pump is failing — has become really noisy in the last 48 hours and is extremely HOT. I’ve already had the motor repaired once — so I’m thinking I need a new pump.

I live in WV and use the pool 6 months or less (with a heavy heater use for 3 of those months ).

Any suggestions ? Variable speed pump vs 2 speed pump ?? I assume no good options for the flow issues

jc,

You can "adjust" the flow somewhat by using different size eyeballs on the three return ports.. In a way, it is like adjusting the flow at the pad.. Not as good, but it works.

The real value of a VS or 2-speed pump is to be able to run slowly to save money on the power bill and to reduce the noise of a full speed pump.

If you already have an issue with circulation, then running slower is not going to help much..

I am a great fan of VS pumps, but they work better in pools that have several water features requiring different pump speeds..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks for taking the time to reply ! So best I can tell you are suggesting (maybe) to just get another single speed pump ——
Should I stick with the 1 1/2 HP or go larger ?

Also when I try to unscrew the far cover over the eyelet the whole thing turns and this cloudy stuff comes out where I guess the whole fitting was siliconed in —- Don’t know how to hold the outer rim to keep it form spinning
