We are in the finalizing phases of our pool design and I need some input about our plumbing and electrical set up. I've included a picture of our most recent layout and before we get any further I want to see what others think about what they are presenting us. For the plumbing we are wanting all 2" plumbing with 2.5" at suction points. Does this sound legitimate? We will be using the Pentair Intelliflo VS pump, Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420 filter, Paramount PV3 infloor cleaning system with 1 Venturi skimmer. As you can see they have suggested 6 returns to the pool. This seems excessive to me. We were thinking three returns would be more then enough. One on the Baja step to keep water flowing and two on alternate sides of the main body of the pool. Are more returns necessary in our case? We don't have a huge pool and really want to keep costs down. For the lighting we were thinking of either putting in one Pentair Globrite on the Baja step or making the two bubblers Pentair Colorvision bubblers which use the Globrite lights in them. Any thoughts on the Globrites and how they would light up the step? We wanted the other light to go on the side of the Baja step facing away from the pool. We would like that light to be a Pentair Intellibrite either pool or spa size. They are indicating that won't work and we would need a small size light. Any ideas on that or what the best way to light the pool would be? Do you think the Intellibrite spa light would light the area(16x20) efficiently or would the pool size be better? Any thoughts or suggestions would be very much appreciated. We are doing an owner build to make sure we are getting the best pool for our money. Don't mind spending more on things that improve the pool but don't want to be wasting money on things that won't make a difference! Thanks ahead of time for any input!

Opinions on the infloor systems are widely varied. I had it at my previous house, and knowing what I do now, I would not spend the money on it again. Cheaper to get a robot and it will likely clean better. And you do not need to run the pump at high speeds for many hours each day to try to keep the debris collected.

If you do get the infloor system. Have a separate loop of regular wall returns plumbed all the way back to the equipment pad with a valve to select between them and the infloor. This gives you a backup system when the infloor has problems. And is an option for circulation when you are swimming and not wanting to kick the pop up jets.

Wait ... Rereading your post, I am confused ... you mention an infloor system but then talk about wall returns? Infloor systems usually have a LOT of return jets on the floor.

Our last pool was slightly smaller then the one we are going to be building now. We had the PV3 infloor system in it andactually thought it did a really good job. We had the cleaning head jets on the floor but only two returns on the side walls. That's what we are questioning the amount of returns they are suggesting. The infloor set up will be sent to Paramount so it's not pictured yet. They do each configuration specific to each pool. I looked at robots, but I do t want to be out cleaning the Baja step everyday. Plus I'm one of those people who hates clutter and a robot cord would drive me crazy! I do agree the robots, from what I read, tend to keep the pool much cleaner. We just had really good luck with our last pool and figure we might as well try again.
