I am planning on closing ABG pool next week with Temperatures reaching into the 70’s . Pool temp looks to be at 55 plan on slamming and letting pump run 24 hrs .
-will the pool temp. Hamper the chlorine in any way?
- the next 2 days night temp will reach down to 24 degrees. Will run pump 24 hours on those 2 days to keep hoses from damage.
I realize I’m getting a late start closing but we have had very warm weather this fall in Oklahoma. Yesterday, the morning temp was 75 degrees and by 3 pm it was 42 degrees.
Is there anything I need to be aware of by closing this late?
Typically, how long does it take to drain sand filter ? Can the wet sand harm the laterals in filter?
Thank you.

Cold water has no effect on fc except that generally the pool’s daily fc consumption is lower.
You ideally want the filter and equipment to have as much time as possible to fully drain before freezing temps come along but if all you have is a day then do your best. The sand filter can only utilize gravity to drain ( you can’t really blow it out) so you’ll just need to hope for the best. I have drained one in freezing temps in an emergency with no ill effects. My 250# sand filter usually stops dripping by the end of the day. I imagine the sand stays wet for a long time in a closed vessel. No getting around that.
You might wanna use a shop vac or a blower to try to dry out the pump after draining if freezing temps are upon you. There’s usually 2 drain plugs- be sure to remove them both.

Thank you so much.
What about the vinyl liner and closing up to slam level. Should I back off on the amount of chlorine I add? Was planning on putting in 436 oz. Don’t want to ruin liner.

I close at slam level for my cya every year- which is usually around 28ppm for me.
FC/CYA Levels
slam level fc is perfectly safe for your liner.
