Pool cleaning for beginners.

I’m posting this because I can’t find it on here. And I had to write it out to teach someone. I hope this is helpful.

Cleaning a salt water swimming pool for beginners

- attach brush to long pole. first brush down from top to floor of pool. Brush every side at least once per year or as needed to remove algae growth. This causes the algae to die and fall to the bottom to get vacuumed. Algae is clear and sticky when it first grows. Brush anyway - you may not be able to see the algae, but it’s there.
- shut off breaker and if the pool is very dirty, set dial to vacuum on Waste. (Always turn clockwise)
-run hose on full into pool to maintain water level to the top of the white rectangular filter inlet

-scoop leaves or large debris before vacuuming
- empty and clean filter basket. Set the basket on a table.

- remove brush and attach vacuum end to long pole

-place vacuum in the bottom of the filter receptacle to form a seal. (Easier with a second person)

- turn on breaker

- start vacuuming in deep end. Keep the vacuum against the pool floor ( otherwise your just sucking water out of the pool)

- move the vacuum slowly across the pool bottom maintaining suction. Vacuum in rows (like vacuuming a carpet ).

- this process may take 2 separate days if dirt kicks up and clouds the pool. It will resettle.

- when done vacuuming, turn off pump breaker

- set filter to Filter (always clockwise )

- replace filter basket.

- turn on pump breaker

- turn on salt breaker

- check pressure gauge. It should be between 10 and 15 (whatever is normal for your pool)

- if the pressure is above 10 to 15 pounds, turn off both breakers. Set the filter to backwash (always turn clockwise). Watch the clear cup on the back of the filter. You’ll see the debris from the filter. It takes 1 to minutes to clear. When it’s clear, turn of the pump breaker.

- set the pool filter on to Filter ( always turn clockwise )

- turn on pump breaker and salt breaker

- check the pressure gauge. It should be between 10 and 15 pounds.

- if all is well, you’re done! If the pool is cloudy, repeat the vacuuming when it settles. Usually settles in 1 day.

Go swimming !
