Lighting question...

We built our pool into a hill. The back wall of the pool is a retaining wall...stepped from 24" to 30" to 36" at max height.

We would like to install lights under the cap to wash the walls to match lighting we will have at other walls. However, per NEC, the lights will be too close to the water and typical low voltage lights fed by 120V AC aren't permissible

It is my understanding solar lights are permissible, but would I be able to install a set of lights fed by a 12V battery charged by a small solar panel as opposed to individual lights?

Thanks.

pmb,

I can't understand why low voltage lights can't be used on the wall itself.. After all, it is pretty common for 120 volt lights to be used right in the pool??

Seems like if you have a pool rated transformer, located the proper distance from the water, then installing low voltage lights on the wall would not be an issue at all...

Tell us who is telling you that low voltage lights are not allowed???

Thanks,

Jim R.
