A pool service is closing my pool on Friday morning. Because of expected rain, I will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to add the polyquat and will only be able to run the pump for approximately 15-16 hours after adding the polyquat. I now have a variable speed pump and I'm wondering if I should increase the speed of my variable speed pump so the polyquat will get mixed in better. I normally keep my pump at 2200 RPMs during the day and 1800 RPMs in the evening but I can change those speeds if it would help mix in the polyquat better. I'm also wondering if I should dissolve the polyquat in a bucket of water and pour it around the perimeter of the pool or if it would be a waste of time to do this. Water temperature is 64 degrees so I want to make sure the polyquat gets mixed in well since I can't wait any longer to close.

I know that polyquat is supposed to be added at 1/2 SLAM level. I'm having trouble figuring out what my CYA level is so I can determine what 1/2 SLAM level is. I read on here that CYA test results can be skewed when the water is cold so I warmed the water sample vial up in a warm water bath. I have tested my water twice after warming up the water sample in a water bath and the first test appeared to be 30 and the second test appeared to be 35-40. I have no idea which one is correct and I ran out of CYA solution so I can't test it again. Do I just assume that its 40 and add the polyquat at 1/2 SLAM or 8 ppms? Or do I assume that its 30 and add it at 6 ppms?

We could be having this exact debate in July. It's a subjective test with some variance from test to test. You're way close enough. Pick one. :)

Also. Bravo for letting the sample warm up.

I used to also add a mid winter dose (no pump) and it dispersed much better when mixed in a bucket first. I did 4 or 5 batches with the bottle in a 5 gal bucket.

Either is fine for 15+ hours. You'll be good and mixed by then.
Because of expected rain
Are you made of sugar ? :ROFLMAO:
