My Polaris VRX IQ+ pool cleaner still won't pick up all the silt even after I have replaced the filter with an "ultra fine" one. The silt is coming out the back of the cleaner. Any suggestions about what to do?
I'm using the stock filter with mine, and it gets down to the finest of sand/silt I can visibly see. I find the scum in the basket, and, I can see fine dust when I sweep off my deck it can't reach but don't see same dust on the floor after cleaning. I was wondering what the finer filters do could do better. Are you sure the filter housing is sitting down far enough into the body?
My ultra-fine filter is sitting completely down in the cannister and "snapped in" place, I get some silt caught up in the filter and it coats the inside of the filter but some silt still comes out the back of the cannister when moving through the pool. don't know what else to do.
The silt coming out the back vent and also collecting on the media is a little telling on the micron size of filter "maybe" not being issue. I had read some review that folks rec'd new filters that had small separations in welds of screen to cage. Maybe run a careful eye completely over in the light while gently pushing at seems. Again, the silt I run mine over with just the factory filter, which seems pretty fine, is always gone. Just last night I was pushing some of the very, very fine dust from where it collects in the step corners, and none of that is on the floor.
Is it actually coming out of the water jet hole or is it perhaps just being kicked up? I find that my fine filter does an excellent job of getting the stuff the regular filter does not. And it kicks up fine dirt to be filtered by the filter as well.
I did have a slight break in one of the welds with the mesh, but already fixed that. Thank you both for your feedback. This is my first time on any kind of forum and you have been most helpful.
The next troubleshooting test would be to see if you can still see dirt coming out of the exhaust with your original filter, since even with that one, dirt large enough to be visible should be filtered down, unless that's what led to trying this finer one. Are they filters factory? If all tried, next stop would be PS for warranty check for canister not sealing properly.

Sure it could if not seated properly at the filter case seal (filter mouth opening rubber). The exhaust fan puts the entire inside of body under vacuum, and that seal is what keeps dirt from pulling into the body. If dirt is coming in from around the outside of the filter housing, it will go right out the exhaust port.
