Polaris 9650 Power Cord Got Cut

Esteemed Members of the Forum,

My parents have a pool and bought a Polaris 9650 about 4 years ago. Last year the robot broke while still under warranty and they replaced one of the motors and the power cord, but the unit is no longer under warranty (nor would the warranty cover what I'm about to mention). Last week while the Lawn Man was out he accidentally cut the floating cable completely in two. Dad wants to just splice the cord back together as splice would (theoretically) remain dry and not have to be in the pool. I am not a fan of this and think at a minimum the cord should be replaced. Mom wants to replace the entire robot with one that is lighter (I had mentioned earlier this year when her robot went out that I believe Dolphin had some lighter models that we could get). If we do replace the cord is it something a regular person can do, or does it need to be done by a professional?

The cord is $250 I would not hesitate to replace it on my own. I love this robot I would not get another. If the cord was cut where it would lay on the deck anyway, can you just shorten it and move the plug down where the cut is? It is a $1500 robot there isn't really much better on the market.

the cord was cut about 20 ft from the robot, but it needs more than that to reach the control. Maybe I can reattach the plug end into the robot?

I would rather not change robots, mom was just wondering if there was something lighter out there since she struggles to lift the robot out of the pool.
