Plumbing question: heat pump

I'm installing a HP50ha heat pump. According to the install manual a bypass valve is "optional" it doesn't make clear if I still need to tee Togeher the supply and return after the isolation valves . Can I pipe in, pipe out with no ill effects?

The only problem I see is if you have to maintain the heat pump your entire system is shut down
I'd go for the valved bypass, then you can continue adding chlorine and filtering

No issues in regards to heater efficiency , delta t, mixing water temps or tuning? I've got unions and service valves piped in and re routing the supply and return water to bypass the heater is as simple as two hose clamps.
Note: above ground pool with intex pump and sand filter. Nothing too fancy going on over here for plumbing.
