Plug Skimmer Line Instead of fixing the leak

Hello,

Our skimmer has a leak underneath. We got quited $2k to replace it. We just moved to this home and wanted to use a plug and fill the pool so that the plaster doesn’t get exposed to the sun. We will get it fixed later. Is it possible to just just plug it in the meantime until we decide to fix it?

With good main drain suction to keep the pump fully primed you can. Was the pool was already empty when you moved in? Have you seen it filled and running so that you know the pool pump pulls water adequately from the drain? It would stink to fill it up only to find out the drain is messed up too. If you are able to operate on drain-only water suction, the trade-off is no water surface movement, so everything will just sit there until it can fall to the floor. Probably get dirty quite quickly unless you have a robot cleaner.

Water was draining to the skimmer. Once the water level was by skimmer opening it stopped for days. The water stopped leaking and we monitored it for a ew days. We had the occasional evaporation. So with that we isolated that the problem. The main drain is good and doing its job. We do have a robot cleaner. And we skim the water surface everyday(it’s really therapeutic and satisfying).
