Plug popped out of filter last night

Last night the pool was running in the freeze protect cycle when we heard some cavetating noise around 3 am. Went out, spa had about a foot of water and pool was down 5 inches. The plug on the Hayward filter had blown off with enough force to knock the bottom fence board off and land about a foot in the neighbor's yard. Just hit the service button and went back to bed. Was expecting the threads to be stripped, but they seem fine. But tape on and rethreaded. Now putting water back in the pool. Any reason not to turn it back on? Any idea how it could have come loose enough to blow out? Husband claims last time we cleaned filters ( sometime this fall) he screwed it back in correctly....

In Houston, so don't think the temp was below freezing that long.

Update - refilled the pool, turned on the pump. everything seems to be fine. Pressure running around 12psi. Any idea why/how the plug shot out of the filter housing? In theory, it's impossible, but I noticed there were a few other older postings in the forum where people experienced this.
