I am planning to replace the pump for my waterfall spillover. It's an old Hayward Super that will be replaced with a Waterway SMF (with 2" unions)

Just wanted to sanity check my plumbing plans. I'm going to cut at the red marks shown and will probably put the new check valve on the horizontal discharge pipe at the first elbow coming off the pump (may not be enough room on the vertical pipe w/ the unions).

Make sense? Just want to ensure I'm not missing anything before I start cutting.

Also anyone have any good sources for a check valve like the one pictured (they are surprisingly expensive!)

You might be able to save the check valve. I have done it myself although it is not easy. Here are a few videos explaining how to do it. I used a heat gun.

Also, are you sure that 90 into the suction side is at the right height. Pump inlet heights are rarely the same.
