Our water is green at opening but I can clearly see the steps. I need to get the pool cleared up by Wednesday because I won’t be home during the day after then to test the water and add chlorine. I think this is doable since I’ve got a fiberglass pool and can clearly see the steps, but I would like a critique of my SLAM plan to make sure I’m doing everything correctly. Here are my current test results:
FC: 2 (was 10 last night)
CC: 1
CYA: 0 (was 40 at closing and we have a mesh cover so this isn’t unusual)
TA: 45 ? (Was purple at 40, bright red at 50)
PH: 7.0
CH: 180 (went down due to rain over winter)
(CYA doesn’t completely dissipate in an hour so I assume there is no ammonia).
Here is my SLAM plan. Please let me know if I need to make any changes. I’ve already purchased all of the chemicals mentioned below.
1. Add 38 oz of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda to increase PH to 7.4 and TA to around 60. I can add a bit more if I need to increase PH and TA more because of CYA or Dichlor additions.
2. 30 minutes later, add a gallon of liquid CYA to get CYA to around 20 according to pool math.
3. 30 minutes later, add 27 oz of powdered CYA to sock in skimmer to increase CYA to 30 or start SLAM off with 3 lbs of Dichlor shock if it would help to get CYA into he pool faster. (I’ve got both of these in garage.)
4. 30 minutes later, start SLAM
5. Check FC every few hours while awake and bump FC back up to 12 as needed.
6. Brush pool several times a day.
7. Backwash sand filter when pressure goes up 20 percent
8. Vacuum pool as needed.
9. Keep going until OCLT is passsed.
Please let me know if there is anything else I could do to speed this SLAM along.
