Hi everyone! I recently took over maintenance of our pool. I got a TF-Pro test kit and have tested my pool a number of times over the last few days. I'm running into a couple of issues as described below and could use an extra set of eyes!
Pool stats:
Latest readings:
Thank you in advance!
Pool stats:
- 24,000 gallon pool, chlorine
- 520sqft cartridge filter
- Southern California, 84°F water
- TF-Pro test kit
- Elevated spa that waterfalls into main pool
- Intelliflo pool pump which drains 50% from skimmer and 50% from vacuum, and returns 50% to elevated spa and 50% into pool return jet
Latest readings:
- 2.0 FC
- 0.0 CC
- 7.8 PH
- 90 CYA
- 110 TA
- 475 CH
- FC is dropping pretty quickly
Yesterday morning I was at 0.5 FC. I added 6 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine yesterday, FC with FAS-DPD came up to 13.0. Did the overnight test, this morning it was still at 13.0. I tested again after sunset today, and FC dropped to 2.0 (from 7:30a to 9p). Is that expected, given the high CYA, 0.0 CC, and no drop in FC with the OCLT?- Aug 17 10:10a 0.5 FC, added 2 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine
- Aug 17 4:03p 2.0 FC, 0.0CC, added 2 more gallons
- Aug 17 5:53p 7.0 FC, added 2 more gallons
- Aug 17 8:36p 13.0 FC
- Aug 18 7:27a 13.0 FC
- Aug 18 9:15p 2.0 FC
- Stain on pool walls
I recently did a drain and fill last week to lower my CYA (I knew it was previously above 130 based on a pool store test but it must have been even higher given I drained over 2/3 of it and it's still at 90). The remaining water got a little cloudy since I couldn't run the pump while the pool level was low and it took longer than expected to drain. The water cleared up once I refilled the pool and added chlorine but it left stains on the walls. I tried brushing the walls with both a nylon and stainless steel brush, but it doesn't want to come off. I'm debating SLAMing it, but if the stains are algae, wouldn't the CC level be higher and wouldn't the OCLT have shown a drop in FC?
Thank you in advance!
