Phosphates in clear pool

gezzzzz- 190 now what?

If you are saying your CYA is 190, then you need to drain quite a bit of water. However, since you have a vinyl pool, I would do the drain in two steps. Drain the pool until there is about 1 foot of water left in the shallow end. You want there to be water on the liner to keep wrinkles from happening. Once the water level gets down that low, fill back up and circulate all the water for 1/2 a day. For the heck of it, you could go ahead and check your CYA level at this point to give you some motivation to continue! But likely you will still be around 110 CYA, and still need to drain more.

The good news is once you get your CYA in check, it will not rise unless you add dichlor or hypochlor.

Also the TFP method will be much easier on you and your wallet with a lower CYA.

Add the recommended FC levels together for 100 and 90 and that is where FC needs to be to keep the pool sanitary. [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] It will be a big number. CYA will decay at a rate of 3-5 ppm per month in addition to however much splashes out or overflows during rain.

Not sure my well will handle that big of a fill right now.. if i only use TFP and keep my FC level up and slowly waste or backwash as rain comes think ill be ok?

Elliott, your pool requires around a 70% refill to be within standards. To answer your question, the CYA WILL go down on its own at a rate of 3-5ppm per month. Which will take about 35 months!! Alright, maybe that's a little bit of a stretch. That doesn't account for splash out and rain. But you get the idea.

Your CYA is 190. The matching FC level for that is between 21-25 and shock level is 74! This amount is needed to keep the pool sanitized.

But I would definitely start now draining some water. Do as much as you feel your well can handle now.

The good news is, once you get your CYA down, pool maintenance becomes much easier and the level won't rise unless you add Trichlor or dichlor.

Yes just found guy close by ... my FC seems to be holding now and all other levels are good except CYA ...water is beautiful had lots of rain i think hope maybe ok with back washing & rain ??? CYA was little lower day before . Need check it again my kit sure didn't come with alot to check CYA going to have to reorder. Enough to check it 4 maybe 5 times. One more question my FC reading was 10.8 but no CC , that's ok right?
