PH up after adding Ascorbic acid and Sequestrant

Hi,

I am confused... I had some staining on my liner and decided to follow the Ascorbic acid treatment steps (Ascorbic Acid Treatment - Further Reading). I have a 20,000 Gallon pool and added 2 lbs of ascorbic acid, after 30 minutes or so it cleaned up all the staining. I then added the sequestering agent and filtered for 24h. My PH is now showing above 8.2, not what I was expecting at all. I added some ph down but that didn't seem to help. Not sure what to do next as I this is the opposite of what I was expecting and dont what to mess up the whole pool.

Thank you for any advice.

What test kit are you using?

Suggest you use muriatic acid for pH control. Dry acid (pH down) adds sulfates to the water which build up over time, can corrode metal surfaces aren't good for SWG's.

Ok, yes would definitely prefer to use muriatic acid, but do not have it right now, as I bought borax to bring PH up. Have tried a couple different test strips and a Taylor Complete test kit (unfortunately it expired a couple years ago). All give the same result. After retesting, the PH down did bring the PH down to around 7.4. So I think I can fix, just don't understand why the ph was up not down. My chlorine was at around 1.0 when I started the treatment and ph was at around 7.4.
