During weekly tests of my 32 years-old plaster in-ground, I ALWAYS have a Taylor pH that I believe to be 8, adding Muriatic Acid each time according to Pool Math. The amount rarely changes
TA = 80
FCl = 5 IC40 at 40%
CYA = 75
1. Should be testing and adding more than once a week?
2. Should I bring TA down to 70?
Thanks for the aeration info - my setup has an always-on waterfall into the spa which spills into the pool.

What pH do you target when you add MA?

I would let the TA fall just a bit more. I could help slow that pH rise. As for testing intervals, stick to a patter that works for you. Me personally, based on my pH's rise patter, I typically test pH twice a week.
The upper Limit of the Taylor pH is 8. How do I know it’s not 8.2 or 8.4? Sometime it really looks more pink than others.

You don't know. When you suspect it's higher, you need to test 20 mins later to ensure you reached target. Otherwise you lowered it 0.3 as you hoped but it's still 8+.

The same goes for testing at the low end.

When you notice you consistently need a dose every 5 or so days, and they do what you expected, then be comfortable that you're catching the Ph rise about the right time. Then occasionally test afterwards to ensure you're still doing it right.

Common sense, which, when it comes to swimming pool management I often lack.

You're tracking several independently moving targets at once. It's easy to max out the CPU. :)
