pH & Chlorine digital meters.

Hi All.

Does anyone have recommendations for digital testing meters for pH and Chlorine/Chloramines?

I would rather spend twice as much and get a good meter than waste my money on a second rate meter.

I seem to recall a discussion that it's very hard to get a meter that will test chlorine reliably, but I definitely need a decent meter for the pH.

I had a meter by EZ-DO Model PH5011 that finally stopped working.

Thanks for any help.

ORP meters are used to measure the oxidizing power of water which is related to the FC but also is affected and thrown off by many other variables. They are not really worth it unless you run your pool with very low CYA and do a lot of correlation data analysis to figure out what a specific ORP reading “means” for your pool water. It’s simply not worth the effort and you’ll be buying new probes every other year at best.

There are decent pH meters out there and sky’s-the-limit on pricing depending how fancy you want to get. With any pH meter you have to regularly calibrate them to ensure accuracy. Good probes that are well taken care of will last about 2 years; cheap pH probes will last about 6 months if you’re lucky.

Liquid reagent testing is really the only cost effective and long lasting solution to pool water testing. It takes diligence and patience to do it right and get comfortable with the color matches but it’s not impossible.
