Since I got my Taylor kit I haven't been back to my local pool store, my pool looks FAB and I have saved so much $$$! THANK YOU ALL!

Have a question about adding chlorine & PH reading: last night I had a lowish reading and just wanted to raise back to 5 since we have some hot weather (finally) on the way!

1) It was not a slam but about 100 ounces of liquid chlorine and this morning I have a high PH reading (7.8 to 8 I would say). Should I attempt to lower immediately or could this be false?

2) Alkalinity test turns clear on 7 drops then dark pink on 8. My kit says should turn "RED"...am i in good range?

3) CYA is finally in my pool thanks to all of you (and it was definitely the solution to my problem!!) ... How do you read it properly? I held tube down to waist and saw dot disappear somewhere around 35 mark. Is this correctly done for distance?

THANKS =)

Your FC is below 10 so the pH reading is probably right.

Taylor says red, but Barbie pink is more like it

Yes. Waist level. Next time you test CYA, fill the view tube to 40. Then hold it down and look. Do you see the dot? If yes, fill up to 30 and look again. Did it disappear? Pour it back and repeat a few times.

When you do the TA test, the end point is where the shade change stops. I will add more drops once it turns to red, stopping when a drop doesn't change the shade, and I don't count that drop. I usually get a faint red, then a bright pink/red, then no change.
