Pentair WP-28 Shutting off soon after turning on

I've got a 6 year old Pentair WP-28. It typically turns on around 9 and shuts off around 6. Today, around 1, I noticed the pump wasn't on. The case was hot to the touch. I turned everything off and checked that the impeller was free, and it was. The basket was clear of debris. I then turned it on again, and it ran for about 10 seconds then shut off. It was pulling water to it, then it just stopped.

Is this a capacitor issue? I watched a few videos suggesting it was. Or could it be something else? I'd rather try fixing it myself before calling in a technician.

Thanks

Steve Shafley

Check the volts and amps.

Can you show a picture of the pump label from the front of the pump with the bar code, date and part number?

Can you show pictures of the whole system and timer?

Can you show a picture of the motor wiring compartment?

Additional photos. A run to Home Depot might be in order

Remove the metal plate from the front of the timer so that you can access the wires at the timer.

Check the voltage at terminals #1 to #3 and then at #2 to 4 when the switch is on.

Use the clamp ammeter to measure the current going to the motor.

Clamp around one of the wires going to the motor.
