PENTAIR VSF pump only works in manual mode, replace drive?

A few years ago my pool heater stayed on for days without my knowledge and fried my multicolored light. Everything else worked fine. I just replaced the light and now the VSF Pentair pump only works in manual mode with the RS485 cable removed. I had the cable replaced and the same problem exists. The easytouch panel and intelliflow app cannot control the pump remotely. A Pentair technician on the phone remotely rebuilt the settings for the easytouch / intelliflow parameters. When the RS485 cable is inserted, the display shows ‘display not active’ normal, but the pump won’t respond to remote commands from the ET or screen logic app or remote control. All other ET functions are fine, lights, spa, heater…

A Pentair recommended delaer/technician replaced the cable and suggests the pump drive unit needs replacing. My question is this. How could that be if the pump works in manual mode just fine? How could replacing the drive unit fix this remote fault? What is the likely fault?

I’m new to this forum and this is my first pool, five years in now. Thank you for your help.

P,

For the pump to be controlled by the EasyTouch several things have to happen.. Let's make sure they are ok..

The pump's display must show "Display Not Active"
The Pump's "TYPE" must be correct.
The system must be in AUTO and not in the Service mode.
A Circuit must be on, usually the Pool Circuit, but it can be any circuit.
The Circuit that is on, must have a Speed assigned to it.. Like Pool = 1500 RPM

Also, it is best to have all RPM speeds or GPM speeds and not a mix..
Since you have an VSF pump you need to make sure that the pump's firmware is not 3.03 or 3.04
Just because the cable was replaced do not mean the pins inside the control head are not corroded or missing..

If you change the pump TYPE, it will clear all of the pump speeds, so don't just assume they are there, actually check to make sure they are there..

Here is an example of the Type and Speed set up page

Thanks,

Jim R.
