Hi, new to this board but hoping for some help.
Have Pentair mastertemp propane heater, replaced control board at time of pool open and heater worked. Yesterday using key pad to turn on,only 'spa on' button worked, but heated pool fine (there is no spa). However, no other buttons worked ( neither up/down arrows, nor off button). Only way to turn off heater is to turn off pool pump. Pump and heater are on same breaker. Have call in to pool comp that installed board but in the meantime any suggestions for how I could turn off heater so I can keep pump running til they come out?
Thanks for any help

Is there a 2-wire cable running between the heater and the control panel? If so, disconnect it at either end and the heater will stay off.

If there's no cable, open the heater and look for the "fireman's switch". It's not really a switch, it's a pair of electrical terminals connected by a jumper. Remove the jumper and the heater will stay off. The heater manual should show you where this is.

Same thing happened on mine once. Turned out the keypad membrane had gone bad and the "off" button no longer worked. Those cards and/or membranes seem to be a bit flimsy. The fireman switch inside should do it for now, but that's not easily accessible. When the tech comes to fix it, have them add a safety switch for the heater so that you have a way to kill the power to it without shutting the main pool breaker off. They added a switch for this in my main panel and I now have a back-up hard power switch for the heater.
Those heaters can also shut themselves on without you noticing if you didn't power them down properly during the last pump cycle. Having a hard power switch in addition to the soft buttons for these Mastertemp heaters is pretty important I think.

If possible, I’d have an electrician separate the heater and pump onto 2 breakers. Seems like a strain to have them both on 1 breaker.
