When I moved into this house, the waterfall pump in the subject line would lower on, overheat, trip breaker. Bad motor (or so assumed).
Order a replacement motor through INYO and installed. Power on, no pump movement, breaker tripped. I assumed bad pump. But I disconnected the pump and the motor runs fine. I double checked the seal installation...it's all good. I double checked the parts diagram....it's all good.
I think the impeller is not freely turning when reassembled. I notice that the back side of the impeller has a lot of play and I am wondering if there is a guide or bushing I am missing (see pic). Or is the seal shaft size wrong? If not, what causes the impeller to not mount back with free movement S2? There are no signs of wear or damage inside the pump or diffuser.
