We've gotten a few bids from pool builders, but do not have any personal recommendations from anyone. If someone recommendations somebody, can you shoot me a PM.
We've received bids from a few builders thus far, ranging from the large franchise types to the smaller mom/pop places. Prices have ranged from around 80K - 110K.
Option 1: Large Franchise Type. The sales pitch stresses and includes extra engineering on the shell and shotcrete. Jandy dealer but wanted to go with a Chlorine/Mineral with an option for UV. Was the most expensive at 110K. Contractor license was from 2001 but reissues in 2018. The franchise has existed for about 6 years. Feedback from online reviewed mentioned poor follow-thru on the end in some cases.
Option 2: Large Franchise Type. Probably the best sales person, most knowledge, etc. Was the only one of 6 bids that mentioned (correctly) about the setback restrictions in our city (we looked them up after he mentioned them) regarding the pool equipment. Also a Jandy dealer, but recommended salt (which was a plus for us). Contractor proposal was the the oddest, details were in writing but the actual bid was not, nor could we take home a design. Reviews online did mentioned a great sales person but sometimes not getting what expected (ie sale person and/or customer misunderstood what they were purchasing) and some hiccups in construction. A friend also showed me a thread from one of their non-pool related groups that talked about pool builders and this builder in particular, and those reviewed were not positive. (If I knew that before hand I probably would have avoided.) License was the oldest, early 1980's - so the business has bee around for a long time with an actual store-front. Price was in the mid 90's.
Option 3: Family owned but reputable company. A+ BBB rated, licensed in 2004. Also a Jandy dealer but basically refused to do a salt system, mentioned he had too many issues in the past and couldn't stand behind the product anymore. (Again a bummer for me, because we really want a salt system, but I respect the decision to not sell what you stand stand behind.) Best online reviews of the 4 companies. Price was around 92k.
Option 4: Newest company, licensed in 2013. Seems to spend the most on advertising (at least the type of mediums I used). Good but limited online reviews, not listed in BBB. Preferred traditional chlorine pools, but was willing to quote me a salt pool. Was the lowest (of the people we didn't eliminate for other reasons) at around 80k.
Again, I didn't want to list the actual names on a public forum, but if you have a PB you'd recommend I'd appreciate shooting it my way.
