It’s been a while but I’m still trying to resolve my messed up patio. Upon cleaning up the Mason damaged the sandblasted marble stone by power washing it with pressure nozzles. It stripped the finish and left swirls on many stones. I’ve attempted to try multiple different sandblasting companies using glass to Garnett mediums and it darkens the stone too much. The stone manufacturer had a special finishing process that cannot be replicated off site… these stones will need to be replaced. But I’m at the point where the whole patio pretty much does not look like it was expected too. Which brings me to the next pt.
The power washing damage aside, I’m realizing that my mason might had made an even bigger mistake during install….
The stone is laid on a concrete pad above what I believe is a homemade mortar mixing sand and concrete. They were essentially wet laid but some on 4-5 inches of mortar.
The mistake I’m referring was the jointing. He used a grout and it was smeared over all of the stones to leave a grout haze. He never cleaned this up. It sat for months as he built the pool slide and rock mountain around it. The haze has not come up. With marble patios acid can’t be used. Basic cleaners have been tried but it still looks like Crud.
What this the wrong jointing job here? If so, this will add additional support for a complete redo of the whole thing.
