Paint issues ** Please Help***!!

Hi, New to the Group.
Trying to find out the best paint for my problem.
Here it is: Father -in Law has nice pool recently painter last year with Ramuc paint product. Supposedly not the one should have been used. We are told to use chlorinated rubber paint Type A. I do some searching and find out it's illegal to use in PA. I called all around and get the same story. Should I go to a state who lets you buy it like OH or use something that is equal or better. Does anybody have experience with other paints that are equal or better? I am a local Homebuilder/contractor trying to help father-in Law out by taking on task.

No paint will last all that long, two or maybe three years is typical for a very good paint. If chlorinated rubber paint is out you can use an epoxy paint. However, it might be better to sandblast off the existing paint and do something else more permanent. The best choices for more permanent solutions depend on how the pool is built, concrete, fiberglass, etc.

I know nothing personally about pool paint, but my brother-in-law painted his pool. He took his gas-hog pickup on a vacation trip specifically so he could stop in Las Vegas on the way home and buy some paint they don't sell in California. The pool store had pallets of the stuff - said they sell tons of it to out of staters. That says something to me.

If it's illegal to use the product in your state, I wouldn't try to circumvent the law by buying it out of state. I suggest you call your local Sherwin Williams store and ask them what they recommend. They're very good at helping folks out. Benjamin Moore, Devoe and others are probably good too. Whatever's local to you would be a good place to start. Big box stores won't have a clue.

As Jason said, Paint is a temporary solution and it'd be worth at least checking on other options.

thanks for all the suggestions and thoughts. I just want to get the project done this spring and hopefully it will last a while. I was leaning towards the paint not avail in my state because the pool company that has maintain the pool the last 20 years has recommended the "paint" If I get the paint they will redo the job they did last year that that started to blister up and come off. She had that happen to a 5-10 pools using the a lessor paint that was recommended by paint company saying this is the one you have to use now because of the VOC problems. Then they won't back it up when all the problems arise.

See the Sau Sea site. They have an equivilent. The issue is actually the EPA, not the states. Only Low Voc Paints are allowed now.

Paint, as Jason said, is a temporary solution and the 3 years for this type of paint is not a reasonable length of time prime to repainting. That stuff MIGHT get you two years but usually needs it anually. Used consistently, it will cost more than the plaster job that lasts 10 years.
