My friend before moving had tore down his above ground pool. So instead of selling off the extras he graciously gave them to me. I currently run a grey 15ft Intex pool that's about 2 years old now. Is this setup overkill or perfect? Also not pictured is a Hayward skimmer20170605_154339.jpg20170605_154346.jpg20170605_154359.jpg

No its not too big, SWG can be adjusted in % , so you will be fine. The best upgrades to an AGP is a sand filter, SWG, through the wall skimmer and a larger pump. So you are on your way to an almost hands free pool(if that exists). Also you can hard Pipe your pool so the equipment is further away on a shed or at least out of the way.

You have a very good friend, be sure to get them a case of their favorite beverage!

While chances are that everything you now have is a major upgrade to your pool, it's a bit difficult to label it as overkill or not..... How big is the pump HP? What size filter is that? What is the model number of the SWG cell?

I use a Similar Hayward C550 cartridge type filter with a 1hp motor and it works great. It really moves the water and should be great for your pool. Mine supposedly moved 4000gph which means it should turn my water over in 1.6 hours. I would recommend hard piping your pool as the increased pressure may blow the hoses off. That's really the only problem I had.

I had a hose blow off a couple of times and drained the top portion of my pool. Luckily I was home both times and the pump didn't run too long dry. After the second time I figured it was time to switch to PVC hard pipe. I get better flow as I believe the corrugated hose somewhat restricts flow. I think I used 1-1/4" pvc, but 1-1/2 wont hurt for sure.
