Overflow a problem?

So, in Northern California, we've had quite a bit of rain this winter. My pool (IG, gunite, PebbleTec) has been sitting right at the top of the tile line, water-level-wise, but I haven't seen it draining off or overflowing excess water anywhere.

I'm fairly certain we don't have any kind of automatic overflow valve, so is it just overflowing to behind the vinyl stripping between the tile and concrete decking? If so, how bad is that? Should I be worried/draining profusely?

Hi there, yep, it's best to drain down to your skimming depth. The pool and finishes are designed for that range of water depths. No need to panic but I would do it soon.

Hope people in California aren't copping it too bad in all that rain!

I'm i socal and have same issue though are you sure there isn't a little overflow drain along the top of the pool somewhere? Mine is barely noticeable and it leads to the main underground drain that ultimately goes out to street. It's not gushing but it does the job so far. though with another storm coming this weekend I wonder if it will keep up. Especially given the current starting point.

Overflows are not always a given. There needs to be somewhere the overflow can drain to if it is to work properly, and there is not always the nearby deck drain or run to the street to plumb to. Sometimes, you can get the builder to plumb in a 3/4 hose bib or spigot into the plumbing so you can attach a garden hose and run it to an appropriate location for draining. This can also certainly be done after the fact.

Our pool was remodeled in May 2015. I am almost positive that they didn't put an overflow in the auto-fill, as there isn't a drain pipe nearby for them to have plumbed it to, unfortunately.

That said, I'll take a look. Thanks for the input everyone.
