Hey guys,
I've gotten very relaxed with my pool care the past few years (because TFP works so well) and want to try to get back to doing things properly. Our old Salt cell gave out late last season so we limped with pucks and have a new one for this spring. I also haven't cleaned out the sand filter (open lid, fill with hose, agitate with broomstick and let gunk float off) for at least three seasons I think. So what's my order here? Replace salt cell, clean filter (or is this ridiculous/unnecessary), open returns/skimmers, prime pump, and go (SLAM)?

Let me know what you think or if I'm missing anything obvious, you've never steered me wrong. Have a great season yourselves!

When was the last time you replaced your reagents. If over a year, start with replacements. Or get a new kit.

Post a full set of results now so we can get a head start.

Yep, put the cell in. Might be worth popping the top and see how dirty it is... If you have gizmos, take them out first, open the returns.
Let it run for 24 hours, then test and post a full set of results, go from there.

Is there visible algae?

I usually get it all running and dump several gallons of 12.5% Cl to get things going (and don't wait a full 24).
Why? There is no rush. We don't dump and hope. We test and respond.
Best practice is to let the pump run 24/7, then test and respond. The 24 hours hurts nothing. No need to waste chlorine. Added when and if needed in the right amounts.

Sure, go ahead and do everything you listed, except throwing in a bunch of chlorine.
Yep, put the cell in. Pop the top and see how dirty filter is, deep clean if you want. If you have gizmos, take them out first, open the returns. Lube the o-rings on the pump and GO!
Add 3ppm of liquid chlorine when the pump is running.
