Hi there, brand new to the forum and just looking for advice. We have our pool guy close our pool but I have opened it that last 2 years. Every year we open the pool its very lake green, takes about 1 week to get it ready to go swimming. We opened it this year on 5/2 and I have had to clean the DE Filters 4 separate times. White, rocky looking things stuck to the filter every time. Pool guy expressed he doesn't clean the DE Filters as he thinks it keeps moisture throughout the year. Water is green, cloudy and we converted over to salt. Back washing very often through out these days.

How can I improve my opening of the pool to clear blue water?

How can I improve my 4 days of baby sitting the pool to ensure everything is ok.

Welcome to TFP! Well, we know DE filters are great for filtration, but for algae they clog-up very fast. Not much you can do about that. But for the algae, you need the following:
- Follow the SLAM Process.
- For the SLAM, you must test your own water. You need a TF-100 (link below) or Taylor K-2006C.
- Then we will need to see a full set of test results
- Update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info (see mine as an example)

Grab some of those white chunks, put on the grass in a pile, and pour a bit of acid on it. If it fizzles, let us know. It would be calcium

Read our ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and those Vital Links below in my signature and we'll do all we can to help.
