A new liner was installed last fall when closing the pool. All new water fill from city water source brought in by truck and topped off with garden hose when opening the pool on Memorial Day. Closed the pool with a kit provided by pool company that installed the liner. I don't recall the name of the kit but I can get the name if needed. What I can say is that it was a three-part kit, all dry powders/ganules and added one at a time with pump running and a time delay between adding each one.

Really didn't want to use the kit but kind of trapped/forced to use it.

On opening the pool, the water was a little cloudy and had a residue settled on the bottom. Got everything hooked up and running normally.

I refilled my test kit with a refill kit from TCP obtained this spring. I used this new kit for testing.

Test results are as follows: FC - 0.0, pH -7.2, TA - 80, CH 75 and CYA - 20. CYA is actually less than 20 but that is the lowest number that shows on the tube.

I put in one gallon of 12.5% bleach on opening day and one each the next two days. I have not done anything other than that besides running the filter and cleaning out the skimmer sock each day. It's very difficult to do much during the work week. The water is clearer than when opened but not crystal clear.

Looking for guidance on what to do next to get levels in balance and where they should be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you need to perform a SLAM Process to clear that cloudiness. You should add 30 ppm of stabilizer to ensure the CYA is at 30 minimum, then you can increase (and maintain) the FC at 12. If later you find the CYA to be closer to 40, then increase the FC to 16 as your SLAM level. Don't worry about the others items at that point. Just focus on the FC until you pass al 3 SLAM criteria. Hope that helps.

In case you need this ....................

Adding CYA:
To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the Poolmath calculator into a white sock and place in the poolside skimmer basket. For those concerned about suction flow to the pump, suspending the sock near a return jet or from a floating device will also suffice. Best never to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. After soaking for about 20-30 minutes, squeeze the sock often to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level. CYA test readings should show a rise in 24-48 hours, however some pools may experience a longer delay to fully register. Best to confirm final CYA in about 5-7 days before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.

Thanks Texas Splash for the guidance. I will get stabilizer today and get started on raising the CYA level. Is there a specific brand of stabilizer that I should be using or just look for granular stabilizer. I will most likely get this at Walmart.
