Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

When are you going away? It won’t waste chlorine or harm anything to add it all to the target we mentioned the day you leave. Fc in the water is fc in the water whether you put it in slow a little extra each day or all at once. The fc gets consumed daily, the higher the fc the faster it burns off so you may end up actually using more with your plan if you have a while before your trip.
Let fc fall to 10ppm & check/adjust ph or get a meter.
Adjusting it now based on skewed results is a bad idea & you can accidentally overdo the acid.
When you do get to where you can adjust ph , circulating for 15- 30 minutes after the addition before swimming is sufficient. You want ph in the 7’s for swimmer comfort.
I myself was in the pool on sunday and I believe the ph was about the same and i was in for over an hour with no problems. I think even last year my ph was not so normal like now but as mentioned no one ever complained about irritation or discomfort.
As for the fc. I just got my pool to look clear etc because of the proper minimum of chlorine. I would truly hate to bring it down to 10. Now that i got it to b higher than minimum but not anywhere near slam level i can hopefully keep it this way and now just add every 2 or 3 days instead if every day?

PS. Wont the meter also give me skewed result with the only difference being i will know the EXACT number? On the ph

I don't post much around here, as there are plenty of experts to advise. I remember you were reluctant to drain some of the pool because that would be the final straw with your wife. After reading all of the effort you are going through to maintain this pool and the concern for your time away, it seems to me it is time to do a partial drain when you return from your trip. All of this would be greatly simplified with a CYA of 40ppm. Draining half the water in an above ground pool would be so much easier than what you are going through. I know it is partially underground, so don't drain below the ground level.

Just had to put that out there. Surly your wife will understand now. Wishing you the best.

No - ph meters are unaffected by the fc level. You want a good one like the Apera previously mentioned.
They do need to be calibrated (with a special solution) & also checked against the drop test on a regular basis but you can do that with your tap water until you get your high cya under control.

Everything looks good except the ph (which you should deal with sooner rather than later) & of course your cya (which you’re working on).
Don’t be afraid to let fc drop a little to 10ppm - that’s still 2ppm above minimum for your cya of 100. Then check & adjust ph & bring fc back up to high target 🎯 .
Fwiw I generally run my fc at 10% of my cya. It makes it easy to remember.

My next task will b to lower my fc to about 10. I will stop adding chlorine till the weekend then test and see what ph is and fix if needed then bring fc up against n over minimum. Then another partial drain when do a vauum to waste and backwash to hopefully bring CYA down to about 80 or so. Slow but steady

It is a 1000% better game plan than over reacting and dumping Lord knows what in, for the sake of adding things to feel better about it.

And LOOK. It's not only working, but the pool is stupid clear, with minimal effort. :)
Thank i so much. I al excited to get my ph and CYA in line and then its off to the races. LOL. Thank u for all your support as well

Lookey at this What a set of toes. U know i really have been quite lucky. I was in pool today for over an hour swimming (52 laps). Not all at once and remember only 24 feet long. But i luv it. And then on float and fell asleep. So as i was saying i have been lucky with how even some unchemistried water has been treating me. No skin problems or anything or eye problems. Thank goodness. All i have to do is tweak my numbers and then i can save some dollars on the amounts of chlorine needed to keep my pool sanitized and looking like it does right now. Yippee. Lets hope it stays good. Fingers crossed

We just had a huge downpour of rain. I hope this helps bring down my ph a bit. And now i will backwash tomorrow evening and vacuum to waste as well and then refill. Slow but sure that CYA will come down especially with mother natures help
