Opening a salt pool

I think things are progressing, but I wonder about the accuracy of the FC test. Yesterday, I wasn't able to test until late in the morning, and I got an FC reading of 8.5. PoolMath said that I should add 164oz to bring the FC back to 12. I decided to just put in two bottle--242oz of 8.25% bleach. PoolMath indicated that should have brought my FC to 13.67. When I tested later that evening, I got an FC of 16, which (according to PoolMath) would have required me to have added 351oz. Needless to say, I didn't add any chlorine last night. This morning I got an FC reading of 15. I notice that the dropper bottle tends to be a bit random on what comes out. Sometimes you get one small drop, sometimes you get one large drop, and sometimes it doubles up on you, and you get two drops. I try to be careful. I even tried wiping the bottle between drops, but it doesn't seem to stop the behavior. Adding 242 oz to the pool and getting a reading of 16 would have meant that my starting FC would have been around 10.43 rather than 8.5; so do I need to do something about my technique to improve the accuracy of my results, or does this indicate something else wrong with my test?

Thanks--

A couple things could be going on here...

1) The pool volume could be less than you think.
2) The bleach could be stronger than you think. They tend to make it that way so as it loses strength during shipping and warehousing it stays above the claimed strength. Yours could just be superfresh.
3) Your reagent bottle could have a bad tip.
4) You're squeezing the bottle.

So what does the water look like?

When you start adjusting other parameters, you might start noticing you always overshoot on things. In which case, you start reducing the pool volume in poolmath calculations. Or increase if you always underdose. It took me a few weeks but I finally got my pool volume dialed in.

I wanted to thank everyone. I'm still adjusting chemicals (FC is a bit high at 6), but everything looks good otherwise. It took longer than I thought it would because I had an iron stain that I didn't recognize at first, but ascorbic acid cleared it up. Anyway, thanks again
