Hi everyone,

first time pool owner, just installed sprinklers (3 Valves) and would like to wire them up and control them from my Omnilogic. Looking for some advice on what relay I need to wire into and how to configure on the Omnilogic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are the specs on your sprinkler valves?

The omnilogic panel comes with I believe 4 high voltage relays and 4 low voltage relays, don't hold me to that. I know you can add more of either if needed.

I use high voltage relays for:
- pool cleaner booster pump
- to turn on/off transformer for my low voltage pool lights
- to turn on/off transformer for my low voltage landscape lights.

I use one of the low voltage (24v) relays for:
- Hayward valve actuator that turns on/off my deck jets

You should be able to use omnilogic for that...just need to know what you are trying to hook up to it. If you did not use the omnilogic, what would control them. Forgive me...I have never done anything with sprinkler systems.

I'm using standard rain bird valves. Require 24 volt. I'm trying to avoid using another controller for them if possible, figured the omnilogic could handle it without needing a separate controller. As for the pool I have one water feature, heater, lights, and vsp pump.

Ok...you might be able to hook the rain bird valves to one of the valve actuators. 1 and 2 are normally use for spa/pool control, so I would use 3 or 4.

I don't know what amperage the rain bird valve is...I am betting it's close to what the hayward/pentair actuator valves are, but that would need to be double checked first. The Hayward 24v valve actuators are only .75amps...so it's ultra low amperage. This is kinda a square peg/round hole solution, but if it worked you use the omnilogic interface to turn the sprinklers on/off either manually or on a schedule.

In my mind, the preferred way would be to have the valves hooked to 110v to 24v transformer box that you could then wire to a high voltage relay in the omnilogic panel to simply use the omnilogic interface to turn the transformer (sprinklers) on/off either manually or on a schedule.

Here are the relays in the panel:

I like the direct connection to vlv 3 and 4. Rain bird specs
  • Voltage: 24 VAC 50/60 Hz (cycles per second) solenoid
  • Inrush Current: 0.41A (9.9VA)
  • Holding Current: 0.14A (3.43VA)
  • Coil Resistance: 30-39 Ohms
