old hayward navigator, does NOT turn.

So I have an OLD HayWard pool cleaner that is what is essentially a navigator...just about ALL the parts from my 22 year old cleaner is used in the Navigator. (flaps, feet, gear box, turbine, bearings, etc)

So been trying to get this guy out of going into the corner, so took it apart and started replacing worn parts

1 - turbine - the area where the A arms ride on were worn
2 - Turbine Bearings - not really needed, but came with turbine
3 - feet
4 - AXV303 Cone Spindle Gear - the shaft was worn 7 - AXV066A Spindle Gear Bushing just in case the gear above boogered up the bushing

The cone spindle gear wasn't meshing with AXV070 Cone Gear well and seemed to skip gears.

What I HAVE noticed is that there is a good amount of play on the Cone Gear. If I pull up the on the gear I can get it to NOT mesh with the Cone Spindle Gear.

Put all back together...and it still doesn't go in circles.....I looked at AXV408P Gear Box Assembly, looked inside and took out each gear in order and put them back...didn't see anything out of order..

Today going to look at the Gear Box Assembly as that seems to be the gizmo that makes it turn

Thoughts?

I think I fixed "creepy". Took the AXV408P Gear Box Assembly out and took it apart again. Found nothing caught in the gears, but did notice that if I pulled up on the shaft that the red diverter sits on, the gear would not mesh with the other.

as per other threads, I blew into one of the holes and could hear the gears whirring. Looked at each gear's meshing and found that the last gear would mesh only slightly and if that last gear was pulled up just slightly it would not mesh at all. I used a very small o-ring as thrust washer on one of the reduction gears to lift the remaining reduction gears higher so that the final gear meshed better. Alternative fix would be to buy a new AXV408P gear box assembly

Put him all back together and tried out today with expected results...it didn't get hung up in the corner and it DID do circles.
