Coastal SoCal
Hi! I'm new here.
We are about to begin a new IG pool build here in SoCal. I have been searching through old threads here like a madwoman to find "the" tile. Turns out it is hands down NPT's Arctic Lagoon. Also turns out it is discontinued. Our PB was told it was because of issues they were having with the glass. (eta- they apparently cracked/broke very easily and had many problems)

Does anyone know what the issue was? Anyone with this tile having problems?
I'm hoping we can find it somewhere, but I have no idea where to even look if NPT told our PB it is discontinued. Does anyone know of a tile just like it under a different manufacturer/name? I'm borderline devastated.
Thanks!!

Re: NPT Arctic Lagoon tile discontinued!

Are you serious? They were available last month... I used it for my build. I just texted my PB if he has some spares... Glass is rather fragile.. I accidentally dropped my brush pole on the spillway glass tile and a small piece of glass chipped out... I wonder that's what the problem is... Anyways, if this is true... I better be more careful with these tiles... UGH...

Re: NPT Arctic Lagoon tile discontinued!

Oh no! That's awful. I'll let you know when my PB finds out just what the "issue" was. I have a feeling they are just trying to replace the Arctic series with the new "Sea Ice" series and that was the excuse they gave him. Would you pm me where you found it? Thanks!

Re: NPT Arctic Lagoon tile discontinued!

Good to know. Thanks. Maybe I'll contact NPT and start a claim... I figured mine chipped off easily because they are made out of glass... I'm gonna have to treat them with special care now... LOL

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Especially since I just read through your (beautiful!!) pool build thread and see everything you've already had to deal with! :( I love that tile so much I'm still debating using it. I hope others here who have it will chime in....

Re: NPT Arctic Lagoon tile discontinued!

I mean these are not made out of paper. I literally dropped my 10 ft long brush pole on one of the glass tiles and it chipped a paper thin layer of the tile, which is barely noticeable since these tiles are wavy and rough on the edges to begin with. I am not planning on throwing around anything harder than a tennis ball in my pool, so I am not too concerned about breaking them.

I gotta say though, these tiles are the first thing people compliment about my pool. Tiles are mesmerizing to look at. You won't regret it.

Gotcha. That is reassuring. I totally believe you- because when I see it in pictures I am in love with it, lol!

Look at Lightstreams. I've held both in my hands and there is no comparison.
I've seen it online, but not irl. I'll try to hunt down some samples. :)

Call Oceanside Glasstile. They made the Arctic Lagoon tile for NPT and have almost the identical tile available.

NPT in Van Nuys no longer has samples or artic lagoon to give, but they do have in stock some sheets of it, so if you ask they will let you see the whole sheet or maybe buy a sample. Ask the older man that works in the showroom he knows a lot.

I ended up not going with Artic Lagoon because they had very limited stock and when they put together the tiles left from other stores they couldn't or wouldn't guarantee it was Gen 1 or Gen 2 artic lagoon (there are 2 different colors for artic lagoon.

The sunstone-lagoon is a lot thinner w/mesh, which is probably why it's a lot cheaper, around $13 a sq ft vs $28 or so for Artic Lagoon. My installer said there are no issues with it being thinner, people can still stand/step/sit on it, just dont drop heavy items as all glass tile will chip/crack. Here's a photo as of today. This tile is a lot more teal/green vs artic lagoon.

I see this is an old thread, but we have NPT Arctic Lagoon (3 years old) and it is starting to chip off in our pool. Not entire tiles, just shards, which is worse. My kid got a piece stuck in his foot a few weeks ago. Happening to anyone else?
Sadly, it will only get worse, i found myself dealing with glass in hands quite a bit. We have a 5 year old pool & I finally had to replace my waterline tile. It was bittersweet becasue i loved the color. It wasnt nearly as expensive as I thought it would be, and I needed to redo my coping as well for other reasons. It came in at $3k for all the labor, but youll likely be half that if you can keep your coping. Good Luck.
