Northlake, TX New Pool Build

Hello Cliff is here wit the latest numbers...

FC 1.0
pH 7.2
TA 90
CH 175 (should I be concerned?)
Temp 86

PB just replied he did add CYA and I then asked what exactly did you add and he said "shock, muriatic acid and DE...

This is all I have from PB today...thoughts???

thanks Goob...

Yes equipment is on 24/7 with water features. PB will turn off water features tomorrow and keep pump running on high for a week...

One more question.

Is your PB having you run your pumps 24 hours a day for now? If so, you won't want the water features running for that much time. The aeration will push up the pH too high.

You do want to run the water features about 15 minutes or so each day to allow the 'good chemicals' to run through the pipes and water feature pump to keep them clean and 'healthy'.

yes sir he says he did...shock, muriatic acid and DE...this is what he said he added...

also I did get the muriatic acid you suggested at the correct strength from Lowes.

I'm just a pool guy, cook, husband and Papaw...thanks Kim

LOL Their purple pool! So true! It is all yours girls! Now give the one paying for it a BIG !

That looks awesome and you have a great helper in Suz. She has you spot on what to do! Love me some Suz!

What does your PB say about you adding chems with some guidance from TFP? We don't want to get in the way of the warranty. This is important.

FC: push up to 3; go to PoolMath for how much bleach to add

pH: leave alone for now, but if you want to run the water features for an hour, it won't hurt. The pH should start going up on it's own.

TA: looks good

CH: pooldv just beat me to a reply with the CH. Since he didn't say anything about the CH, I'm guessing it's ok for now. It still needs to go up, but tomorrow should be fine.

Get the Ok from your PB, then test for the CYA. Post the results here. PoolMath will tell you how much stabilizer/CYA to add. We can talk about how to add it (the sock etc0

Cliff, your FC of 1ppm is worrying me a bit, but I'm known to worry.

I honestly don't know how quickly algae can grow without chlorine with hot sunny weather.

Let us know if you need anything.

pooldv: Winter, huh? Good, that gives Cliff some time for the CH!

Yes, CSI drops quite a bit with cooler water making etching more risky then. Right now with rising pH and higher TA and CH not all that low we're ok for now.

Thanks pooldv...so as I understand this I just need to add bleach or have PB do it to raise FC and sit tight on everything else correct?

You need to know what the CYA level is. Ph needs to be 7.8, when it gets to 8.0 lower it to 7.5-7.6. Keep FC above minimum for your CYA, [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA]. Your PB will have no idea about the chlorine/CYA chart or the minimum level. He will think FC should be between 1 and 3.

Good morning all. I spoke with PB and he will be making adjustments to pool chems today and wants me to hold off on adding anything at this time. Here are my latest test results with CYA checked.

FC .9
pH 7.5
TA 80
CH 175
CYA 40
CSI -.36
Temp 83

Thanks for taking a look....

I tested CYA and it came out to 40 so my FC should be higher for sure. PB is adding chems (see my new post) and I will test again tomorrow. Your help and advice is much appreciated pooldv!

Ok, FC should not drop below 3 or algae and bacteria will grow. As soon as he leaves raise FC up to 8 or 9. [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] And keep an eye on it because when algae and bacteria start you can't see it but it will consume your chlorine quickly. Once it gets cloudy you are already losing the battle.

When pH gets to 8.0 lower it to 7.5-7.6. The rest looks fine. How much longer is the PB going to be messing up your pool? :)

The rest of the week...then I will tell him I will do it. He will turn on SWG in 2-3 weeks depending on how plaster is looking. Thanks!!

Thanks to pooldv for checking in on you this morning! I'm glad to have it cleared up that your PB wants to call the shots. He's got the warranty card, so it's all on him.

I like your plan of telling the PB that you will take over after a week. Since you'll be the boss then, you can wait to add the salt. Just keep the salt bags he delivers until you're ready. There's really no rush. Even when you do switch over, you will still be testing as often as you are now, since it's new plaster. The salt system will take over, but you'll need to keep an eye on the FC levels until you see those get more steady. As you learn your pool's water, you'll be able to test less. I still test my water about 2 times a week.

Good job testing the CYA!!! And good for the PB adding some CYA!

Next time you test, use the DPD powder test for the FC. Don't throw out what you did, just go right into the CC test (combined chlorine). I haven't seen any results yet for that (unless I missed it) since the PB added chemicals. That test could show us the first hint of algae growth.

Since you're practicing and learning all of this, recheck your -0.36 CSI. When I put in your numbers from this morning, I get -0.25. The only thing I did differently is to round your FC of .9 up to 1. Check when you get a chance - not urgent, and it won't change anything you're doing right now. Might as well make sure you're not missing something on PoolMath. (As I keep running my work of your numbers over and over!)

How are those arms feeling?!!!

July 4 test results...

FC 1.4
pH 7.5
TA 70
CH 225
Temp 82

We had a big rain storm last night. PB is here and he also tested the water and his FC reading is 5 which is where I asked him to raise it to. My FC reading is much lower with TF-100 kit (R0870 and R0871). PB uses a commercial taylor kit K2005. When I use the K1000 reading is much higher as well. So...what am I doing wrong to get such a low reading on my FC???

I have been using the DPD the whole time but I think I'm doing something wrong or not understanding the pool math app...
