Noob question about ground prep for AGP

Thank you, I will just prefer to add a base so it doesn't look terrible when the pool is not there. and use the space for like a fire pit with chairs around.

My dilemma is what do I fill it with? Screening, limestone, or HPB. It seems HPB seems the easiest one as it is less work for compacting it but, again, no experience with this type of work, so I don't know. Everyone recommends sand, interestingly enough the manual says clearly not to use sand. And to be honest, I think sand will wash away and will make the rest of the area where the grass is, messy. Since I am doing this, I also dug a bit of the path to the shed as it will have less sun once the pool is up.

Any other thoughts? Appreciated!

You could always use landscaping retaining wall to keep the sand in place. HBP will not feel great on the feet, so you'll want something on top like foam. Limestone has some sharp bits in it, again, you'd want something to protect the liner.

Thank you!!!!
Do you think you will feel it? even with the tarp and the above-ground pool liner pad in between the pool and ground?
Why is it that the manual doesn't recommend sand?

Sand washes away easy. Yeah, you'll feel it, tarps and pads are less than 10mm thick. If you're going to be standing a lot you'll notice it.

Thank you, there will be 1.5 feet to the fence. Is it ok, or is it too close?

Make sure to check local codes. Where I live, they require a minimum 10-feet setback from the property line- with an absolute minimum of 6 feet if surrounded by a 6-ft high privacy fence.
Agreed, make sure you meet local code setback. You would hate to have to drain and move if it was determined you had an issue.
But I have a more pressing issue. IMO, 18" is barely enough to walk around the pool. You should definitely leave enough room to be able to vacuum and use the net on the pole. or get through if you drop some pool toys outside the pool. Speaking of that, will you have access to the other side of the fence if a toy goes over the fence?
In the building industry, 3 ft clearance is normal for personal access and having enough room to work around something. So. I'd recommend at least 2-3 ft clearance around the pool.

Not sure if it was mentioned yet, but taking down the pool in the winter isn't a necessity. Many members leave the pool up year round. I've even seen some members complain that repeated taking down and putting up can cause pin holes in the liner at the corner

For an Intex pool, level the ground under the pool. Put pavers under the legs so that the top of the pavers are at the same level as where the liner will be. you want all pavers level within 1” of tach other, but ideally within 1/4”.
I would suggest a tarp / mat / gorilla pad under the pool to prevent grass from growing and growing up under the liner. A layer of sand under the liner can be used to soften under the liner if desired.
If you use sand, do you need to put a tarp down?
