I did my first drain and refill. Added the sodium bromide then shocked with "potassiumperoxymonosulfate". 5 days later I am still getting a high FC reading with both the dpd drop test and the oto test. should I wait for the readings to go down before starting to put the bromine tabs in the floater?

Yeah non chlorine shock presents itself as FC even though it isnt. I have the same problem... its about impossible to figure out. Have you added any real chlorine yet? if not, you need to..5 days without chlorine is not good.
No chlorine yet. I will use pool math to figure a dose and get it in right away and put one bromine tab in the floater for maintainance.
You aren't getting a chlorine reading, you are getting a bromine reading. You added sodium bromide, so you have a bromine tub. MPS activated the bromine.
