Finally bit the bullet and got the TFT kit. I hope I did it right. Going out of town on Saturday for a week so want to make sure I get things adjusted. Here are my readings….

FC-24
TC-24
CC-0
PH-7.8
CH-325
ALK-100
CYA-30

We just had a ton of rain yesterday afternoon. Almost 3 inches in 2 hours! So I was excited to try out the kit. We have our SWG on 4 out of 8. So I will definitely be adjusting that. What else should I do?

Congrats!

Let that FC come down, turn your SWCG off, until it gets down to about 6-7, then adjust SWCG to maintain 6-7.

When you leave, lower your pH to 7.4.

Figure out how to run your SWG to maintain 6-7 if you can this week, then raise it 2 levels when you leave. FC will be high when you get back, but you won't have algae.

Thanks! What about my CYA, I thought that was too low? According to the pool math recommendations.

CYA of 30 is just fine. You will use more chlorine to keep your levels with CYA of 30.

Raising CYA will increase the LEVEL you need to maintain FC, but will lower the amount of FC you need to add every day.

You can raise CYA, but that will take a day or two to mix and register, then you only have two days to figure out where to set the SWCG when you go away.

I would rather see you figure out where to set the cell to maintain FC for your CYA of 30, and know that upping your your cell output% by 1-2 (out of 8) will to add FC daily and avoid green when you get back.

You can raise CYA when you get back.

Make sense?

It is low for a SWCG pool. You can add more if you like, it is just another variable to deal with before you leave. It won't hurt anything to raise it to 60. Will decrease FC use while you are gone.

Either way will work, there is no right or wrong, just implications.

Any way you go, turn your chlorinator up 1 or 2 levels over baseline before you leave.

That unit makes 1.15 lb/day. You can use that for "SWG Chorine output" in pool math.

In your pool, running 24/7, 100% would add 9.6FC.

That should help you dial in your % output and runtime.

I’m not understanding what you mean? We do run it 24 hrs so not sure what you mean by what we should set it at? Sorry just need clarification. 😊

Do you have pool math? Link-->PoolMath

If not, download it and configure your pool. You can enter the 1.15lb/day for your SWCG and use it to configure your run time and % output to get the FC you need.

Ok, go into effects of adding, select SWG, then enter 1.15 for SWG Chlorine output.

You can then play around with it to see what run times and % output create the FC you need on a daily basis. With CYA of 30, in MO, in summer, a good number for vacation would be 5FC daily.

There you go!!!

You have, I think, 8 levels of output
0 = 0 output
1 = 12.5%
2 = 25%
3 = 37.5%
4 = 50%
5 = 62.5%
6 = 75%
7 = 87.5%
8 = 100%

So on "4" for 24 hours, you make 5FC or so (1.15 is the number they give, might be more might be less).
