Newbie pool owner, could use some help with chemicals please.

I just an above ground 14 foot INTEX easy set pool from Walmart for the grand kids. I want to get it set up right so I don't waste time or water. Could someone help me out with what to do next regarding chemicals?

Take a look at pool math. Add your pool size in gallons. Run through a battery of tests using the TF100 or Taylor K2006. Then, I would start by getting the pH in range and then raising the CYA to 30 (assuming you aren't using saltwater). Then, I would focus on getting the chlorine (FC) up to the correct number based on the CYA.

Others will jump in, but I think this is a solid start. I've only had a pool since last Fall. It's blue and clear right now.

One option is to follow the Pool School - Guide for Seasonal/Temporary Pools
This uses the nuclear option that if things go wrong, drain, clean, and start over.

The other option is to invest in one of the Recommended Test Kits and properly measure the chemistry levels and keep everything in balance.
