Hi

Been all over the internet looking for help and found this forum. So here goes, I have a 18ft above ground Doughboy pool that I am installing. The ground is a mixture of clay and soil, I have taken off the grass and I am almost half way through levelling the ground, using a laser level and allowing for a no more than 1 inch difference. Problem is I have cracks where the clay is really dry and the surface is really bumpy. Looking at using stone dust to provide a smooth base.

Is this the best thing to use? And should I put down a couple of inches then dig out for pavers under the uprights or lay the pavers directly on the ground and then bring the stone dust up to the level.

Thanks!
Adam

I'm not an expert by any means but here in the US, specifically in NJ they recommend Mason sand for under the pool. I have heard of using stone dust and have seen videos of people using it but my dealer said sand is a better (softer) base.

I would think laying out the pavers first (assuming you know where they should be laid out) would make it easier to level the base. I would think to make sure the area under the pavers is flat without divits so there's no stress spanning an area with the pressure of the pool upright.

Good luck with the install!
