Doing the slam process on my pool. I learned a lesson and discovered this site through this whole process. I was vacuuming what appeared to be grayish algae out of my pool daily for about a week in a half. Every day I would see a bit in the few wrinkles and middle of my above ground pool. I missed one day and we had a rain. Next day pool was tinted green. Before that I used the bag of shock you get at Costco (Clorox) to shock the pool. I would add shock once I got down to a FC level of 1-2.

Levels before slam started.
FC: 0-1
CC:?
Alk: 110
PH: 8+

Just have a 6 ways OTO test kit(rec. test kit coming Sat). Kept the FC higher than the 5-10 on the OTO test for about 7 days now. Also used a lot of PH reducer to get my PH and Alk down to 7.5 and 85 now. I think the PH is up a bit as I did get it down to 7.2 and it increased after I added more chlorine again to 7.5

Can’t wait to actually get a precise test kit so I can know if I’m doing the right things or not lol. The water is no longer green and I can see the bottom again, although I’d still say it’s a bit cloudy. Without know the precise FC and CC levels, I’m assuming I need to keep slam going.

One question I have though is since the pool is just a bit cloudy ATM, can we swim in it for the holiday or should we hold off still. I saw where they said you can enter the pool during SLAM but I wasn’t sure.

Thanks

Welcome to TFP. Thanks for the details. It is very helpful to see the progress as you wait for the proper test kit.
You can swim in water with FC levels at or below SLAM level. However - for safety reasons you should be able to see the bottom. If the pool is too cloudy, it is a safety concern.

Ok I can see the bottom pretty well just not crystal clear. I’m assuming I’m ok to let people swim. Just was concerned with the high FC because previous to this site I was under the impression FC should be between 1-4ppm for safe swimming.

Safe swimming is all about the relationship between FC and CYA, and that is what target levels and SLAM levels are based on. Trust your testing and the FC/CYA chart!
