NEWB-Cloudy pool with pics

I'm also concerned that when you turned your pump on, your water got cloudy. Are you sure when you added the DE to your filter you have everything back in the proper position? Sand filters aren't my thing....... maybe someone can chime in and give Blackjack some advice about this.

The water for the cya test was not very cloudy I filled the tube up all the way to the max and could still barely see the dot. Top of the tune was 30. Since I could still kind of see the dot I assumed it was more like 20. I think TA was supposed to be 100. I'll have to look at the test kit again, but 10 drops is about what it took to change the color of the water. I'm new so it's hard to determine what exact number of drops changes it. I'm also confused about the FC test. My kit only goes up to ten but I need to be higher to shock it. Do I dilute the test to measure higher levels?

Sounds like you have the Taylor K-2005. You're going to need the FAS/DPD Chlorine & CC's test to do a proper SLAM. If you have the Taylor K-2006 then there should be a little jar of powder in the kit.

Correct, I have the 2005. Wonder if I can piece together what I need for a 2006? I'm going to shut the filter off tonight and vacuum the bottom tomorrow morning. I'll also retest the cya and bring it up if I need to.

Ordered the fas/dpd. As anticipated, the water is pretty clear after shutting the pump off. Like yesterday when I turned the filter on things clouded up. What should I do? Maybe try and vacuum the bottom? Seems like the filter stirs things up in the pool. I can see the bottom of the deep end. When the filter is on, I can barely see the bottom of the shallow end...

OK Blackjack. Just wanted to make sure your filter wasn't throwing the backwash into your pool. Without a solid CYA and FC reading its really a toss up what to do. If you are sure about that FC of 7, using pool math and the calculator, plug in 50 as your CYA (until you get a solid reading on your kit) target a SLAM level for your chlorine and add what it says, hopefully that will keep the algae at bay for now. Keep filtering, brushing, vacuuming and backwashing as necessary. Hopefully you get the stuff for your kit soon. Post some results as soon as you do. Keep chugging!
