Evening guys, I’m Wes. Just moved into a new house in Southeast Florida and about to start taking over the pool care myself. I had a pool service take care of it while I dealt with moving and getting situated. But now it’s time to start taking care of it myself and getting the levels right. Tested the chemicals today with my TF-pro kit that I got from here. Plugged it into the pool math app and you can see the results I got in the image. And of course no surprise, all is out of whack. Haha. FC was reading higher than the indicator showed so I entered in 12. But I’m going to start adjusting the levels this weekend. Is there a recommended approach/order on which levels to adjust first? Tackle the one at a time or all the same?

Also, I calcium hardness level is low as well. Didn’t test today but had pinch a penny run a test to compare it to my results since I had to make a run there anyway. Will be testing myself this weekend.

Try the FC test again. The test reads up to 50ppm if you are using the powder and drops (FAS-DPD). If you used the yellow OTO test that only goes up to 5ppm, the other scale on there is for bromine. You’re better off using the FAS-DPD test anyway as it’s more accurate.

Welcome to TFP!!!

What does this mean? Use the 0870 powder and 0871 reagent. Test for FC and for CC. Log and report that result.

What is your CH? What type of pool do you have? Might fill out your signature.

Order:
FC is always king. You want to maintain your FC for your CYA. Link-->FC/CYA Levels
Your FC is very high for your CYA. I would raise your CYA to 40. Use the sock method.
Use pool math with a target of 7.8 for your pH, then add that amount. Generally, don't reduce pH in larger increments of .4. Test 30 minutes later, repeat if necessary until you get to 7.8. With a TA of 50, you don't really want to lower your pH any more, because when you add acid, you lower pH and lower TA. You don't want TA below 50.
