New to testing

For cya I would suggest you add 30ppm worth now via the sock method.
Keep fc in high target range for that cya based on the
FC/CYA Levels and then do an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test before increasing cya further incase something has been brewing in this time of low/no fc incase you need to
SLAM Process
If you pass the oclt increase cya to the recommended 60/70 range.
If you fail —>> SLAM Process first then cya increase.

*When adding salt you want the cell to be off for 24 hours until it fully dissolves.
Also wait 24 hours before testing salt after adding.

To clarify:
the swg simply makes chlorine for you - which you will still need to test on a regular basis and adjust your swg’s output accordingly to maintain target fc levels for your cya. With regular testing you will get an understanding of your pool at different times of the year and different conditions.

The max output of your cell in your pool is 7.8ppm if run at 100% for 24 hours.

The average daily fc loss in an algae free residential pool is 2-4ppm depending upon the season. So as an example:
to achieve approximately 4ppm fc you could do 50% for 24 hours
or 100% for 12 hours
I hope that helps.

Also, you never want to rely on the cell to make up for a deficit in fc. It is simply too slow and nasties will grow in the meantime.
Always use liquid chlorine to get fc in target range asap and then set the cell to keep up/maintain that level. They are designed to be maintainers.

Hope someone can help me again: I'm trying to find muriatic acid. I see on Homedepot.com 1 gallon of Klean Strip muriatic acid for $9.98. It's advertised as a concrete product.
Is this the right thing for pools? I also can't seem to find the % acid contents on the product (14.5% or 29%).

The only other one I see online is this listing from Lowe's for 2 gallons of Muriatic Acid 14.5% for $15.98

Thanks all!

Call Sherwin, ask them if the have 31.45%, 20 Degree Baume Muriatic Acid.

Those are both 1/2 strength. Most “green” ones are.
They will do but you just need to use more compared to 31% - usually costing more in the long run.
both strengths are listed in poolmath so no worries if you can’t get ahold of full strength this time around.
If those two are your only options I would go with lowes kemtek since its no mystery of the strength and seems to be a better price.
